daffodil close upFrequently Asked Questions

Do I really need to have my cat professionally groomed?

While many pet parents may believe that most cats neither need nor enjoy frequent professional grooming, this is far from the truth. Regular salon visits reduce the amount of self-grooming required by your cat; this is especially true for older cats. This in turn will prevent matting, fur balls, and shedding.  Think of all the hair that you won’t have to clean up from around your home!

How often does my dog or cat need to be groomed?

For most breeds we recommend salon visits every six weeks. This may vary depending on your individual pet’s requirements, as well as your preferences. Regular grooming every six weeks allows your pet to get the most out of professional grooming and prevent damage and matting of  the coat. Of course, your pet can visit more frequently should you choose, for general tidy ups between full grooms.

I am unsure of my dog or cat’s specific grooming requirements

No problem, we’re here to help. Feel free to call the salon on (02) 6292 0888, shoot us an email at info@canberrapetstylists.com.au, or use our contact form to get in touch. Grooming requirements can vary based on your pet’s breed, age, and lifestyle, as well as the amount of upkeep you would like to carry out between salon visits. Once we get to know you a little bit, we can provide a tailored recommendation.

At what age should I take my puppy or kitten for its first groom?

We generally suggest that introduction to basic grooming practices, such as bathing, brushing, and nail care, should begin not long after you bring your new baby home (usually at 8-10 weeks old). Familiarising your new puppy or kitten with grooming during the critical learning period of 8-16 weeks is vital to ensure that grooming is a stress-free, enjoyable activity for both animal and owner. We offer a complimentary first groom for puppies and kittens aged 8-16 weeks. This short introductory session will also familiarise you with your pet’s grooming requirements, and provide some guidelines as to how you can maintain your pet’s coat and skin between grooms.

What should I bring with my dog or cat to the salon?

Please bring your dog’s collar and lead, and current vaccination certificate. For baby puppies you may wish to bring a familiar soft toy or blanket. Our preference is for cats to arrive and leave in a carry box. You will also need to bring your cat’s current vaccination certificate.
